On November 9th, 2007, three cities across Canada come together on the same night, for one cause: to Dance For The World. Residents of Calgary, Ottawa and Charlottetown are invited to pledge online and attend dance for the world events to help raise funds for the CUSO Global Volunteer Fund. CUSO is a Canadian non-profit organization which has facilitated international cooperation since the 1960s by sending thousands of volunteers to 24 countries for work with poverty eradication programmes, HIV/AIDS education, social justice projects and community development.

CUSO's event in Calgary is exciting and unique. The fundraising campaign leading up to the event will encourage persons to rally behind several notable Calgarians who have volunteered for this worthy cause. From politicians, radio and TV personalities to musicians and food critics, all are contending for the chance to put their best foot forward and dance toward a world of difference. Who would you like to see dance for the world? Go to www.dancefortheworld.ca and click on “Calgary” to pledge for the celebrity whom you would most like to see on the dance floor. Current competitors include David Swann (Calgary MLA), Charlee Morgan (Lite 96), Jenny Steele (Flames TV/Pyramid Productions), John Gilchrist (Food Critic), and Kris Demeanor (Musician). New celebrities will continue to be added so please contact us (westconnect@cuso.ca) if you know of a notable Calgarian that would like to be added to the competition. Or, think you could have what it takes to dance for the world? Achieve personal celebrity status by creating a team of your own at www.dancefortheworld.ca and gaining the pledges that will put you in the lead. Once the pledges are tallied, the top three Calgarians are granted lessons from our sponsor Arthur Murray Dance Studios and then take to the stage! Dance for the World will be held at Quincy's on Seventh(609 7th Ave SW) on November 9th and along with Calgary's choice celebrities, will feature multicultural food and drink, fair trade arts & crafts, a silent auction and a wide variety of dance performances showcasing styles from around the world including the Japanese drum group Todoroki Taiko; Axé Capoeira brings us a piece of Brazil; Arthur Murray’s Trista & Ian Gooley with a taste of Latin America; and much more including the rhythms of Africa and the Carribean. Put on your dancing shoes and finish the night off with the Calysto Steelband for an all out dance party! A minimum pledge of $20 at www.dancefortheworld.ca will gain you a ticket for entry into Dance for the World on November 9th, 2007 at Quincy's on Seventh (609 7th Ave SW).
