Description:

Have you ever wanted to Dance for the World?

Are you interested in taking part in a fundraising event that incorporates a love for dancing, a show of cultural diversity, a sense of team spirit and some great entertainment – along with a healthy dose of exercise – all for the good cause of helping CUSO’s volunteers make the world a better place to live, work and play for all?

If so, then the following position as a chair for CUSO’s Dance for the World special events committee may be just the volunteer opportunity you’ve been looking for!

CUSO now has a special requirement for volunteers who can chair sections within our Special Event Committee for an annual fundraising event (Dance for the World) that will raise money for the CUSO Global Volunteers Fund, as well as increase general awareness and support in a new and exciting way. These chairs shall be responsible for the recruitment of lesser staff, and will report directly to the Special Event Coordinator of the Outreach Leaders from their region.

Each chair will be assigned a section – based on their skills and experience – and will be responsible for one specific selection of tasks. Such sections include: Venue Logistics, Food, Team Engagement, Decorations, Treasury, Dance Instruction, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the design, planning and execution of the event. (This means sharing your brilliant ideas, using your talented organization skills and eventually flexing your brawny muscles throughout the whole process)

  • Assist the Special Events Coordinator and Outreach Leaders with sponsor development and servicing tasks. (Are you good at networking? Have a sunny disposition and a winning smile? Know how to turn a frown upside down?)

  • Assist in the procurement of media, community, venue, catering and entertainment resources (How well do you know your local businesses? Are you the neighborhood go-to person for suggestions on where to dine?)

  • Prepare meeting agendas and minutes for committee meetings. (Committee Secretary – though we won’t ask you to use shorthand!)

Qualifications :

  • Mandatory skills: organization, team player, communication, professionalism

  • Mandatory experience: event/volunteer coordination, fundraising, public relations

  • Knowledge of CUSO is an asset but is not mandatory

  • Other specific requests include: Professional or intermediate dance instruction, choreography

HOURS OF WORK

Volunteers will be asked to donate approximately 20 hours a month to the event, with the possibility of an increase in demand the closer we get to the day of the event itself.

This is a volunteer opportunity, starting ASAP and continuing until December 1, 2007

We thank all respondents but only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Qualified candidates should submit their résumé by June 30th, 2007 to the following address:
