AGE
AND CITIZENSHIP CONSIDERATIONS
Age
CUSO is obliged to respect mandatory
retirement requirements in countries where cooperants are placed.
In some countries, the retirement age may be as low as 55.
Citizenship
CUSO began as a Canadian organization sending Canadian citizens
and permanent residents to work overseas, and federal funding today
requires CUSO to give preference to Canadian citizens and permanent
residents. CUSO is also required to respect the immigration laws
of the overseas governments, which may require proof of Canadian
citizenship or permanent resident status.
NOTE: Permanent residents should inquire with
the appropriate Federal department to ascertain how taking a CUSO
placement would affect their application for Canadian citizenship.
