STEP
THREE – THE SELECTION PROCESS
If it is determined that your background is appropriate for a posting,
the Cooperant Program Representative will contact you to complete
the selection process.
Withdrawal of Application: If you decide to withdraw
at any time during the application process, please call your Cooperant
Program Representative as soon as possible. It takes considerable
time and resources to match candidates with placements, and we need
to be informed immediately.

Candidates complete an on-line application
for the open posting. These candidates are short-listed by the
Cooperant Program Representative. |

| Pre-Screening
Interview: |
Candidates are contacted by telephone to clarify
qualifications and expectations about the placement. |

| Interview |
Only applications that have been short-listed and
pass the prescreening process are contacted for an interview.
At this point, your referees may be asked to submit a reference.

| Recommendation
to Overseas Office |
The interview panel recommends one or more candidates
to the position to the overseas country office. |

|
| Approval from
Overseas Office |
In consultation with the partner organization,
the CUSO country decides on the recommendation of the interview
panel. |

|
| Selection |
The Cooperant Program Representative will advise
when approval is received through a conditional offer of placement.
As well, the pre-departure information is mailed. Candidates
begin the process of vaccinations, medical and dental clearance.
The Candidate may also begin processes for visa and work permits.
If a
spouse / common-law partner will be accompanying the Cooperant
as a non-working dependent, the Cooperant Program Representative
may request an assessment meeting with the spouse/partner
to assess his/her suitability and answer any questions s/he
might have. This meeting will be requested after acceptance
of CUSO’s conditional offer of placement.

| Orientation |
Before the overseas placement begins, the cooperants
will attend a 5-day orientation.
Accompanying spouses/common-law
partners and/or children 14 years of age and older, will be
expected to be active participants in the entire program of
CUSO’s Canadian and in-country orientations. Childcare
support for younger children will be provided for the Canadian
orientation, as needed.

| Medical Clearance |
The Candidate receives medical clearance
from CUSO’s insurance agency. |

|
| Final Confirmation |
A visa or work permit is obtained and a departure
date is negotiated with the overseas office and partner organization.
Final letters, contract and airline rickets are arranged. |

|
| On Placement |
The Cooperant arrives at the overseas placement.
The CUSO country office arranges the in-country orientation. |
